Following sell-out shows in Glasgow, Belfast and Dublin earlier this year, the smash hit comedy, Fifty-One Shades of Maggie, is set to become one of the funniest shows to hit UK stages in years as it embarks on the first 27-venue tour of the country, with former Emmerdale star Adele Silva taking the lead role.
Initially written by Leesa Harker as a Facebook-based spoof blog of the best-selling Fifty Shades of Grey, the blog was so well received in its own right that it went viral, reaching tens of thousands of followers in a matter of days, and has been specifically adapted for the stage. The play first hit the Belfast stage in January 2013, selling out all 9,000 seats, and went on to perform extended runs in Dublin and Glasgow.
Fifty-One Shades of Maggie tells the story of the loveable Maggie Muff and her search for love. A working-class girl, Maggie – like most women – has been let down by all the men in her life. As she attends an interview at the Social Security Office, Maggie meets the handsome and hunky Mr. Big, who could just be the man of her dreams… or will his ‘Private Room of Pain’ put her off?
This hilarious new play, filled with naughty bits, will have ‘girls’ nights out’ audiences laughing so hard that shares in Tena Lady could go through the roof as they join Maggie and her friends on this (ever-so-slightly-filthy) journey of love, booze and whips!
Fifty-One Shades of Maggie is touring UK theatres from Tuesday 10 September to Wednesday 4 December
